Happy Birthday, America!
I'll admit--
I really have liked celebrating the 4th of July on a Sunday.
It's been a treat.
We have Keith Lockhart on our DVR, and we got our fireworks in last night.
What more could we ask?
Last night, we went to a neighboring town to watch their fireworks show.
(Our favorite place to go wasn't holding Saturday night fireworks, which was a bummer. We'll be back next year, though.)
Ian and Joe finally broke into the astronaut ice cream that Joe bought us on a business trip to NASA. As a cute side note, we realized that we'd never explained to Ian what astronaut ice cream was....this was evidenced by the fact that Ian packed two spoons into the diaper bag when we told him we were bringing it along. How adorable is that?
This is how Blake spent the evening. Mosquitoes are not the friend of my baby. Neither are fireworks. I spent the entire show plugging his ears, which enabled him to sleep through the entire thing.
Today's festivities were fantastic. This is the second year that we've spent the 4th with the Call's. This year we decided to skip the rowboats on the Charles, though. Joe decided he didn't want to offer up his arms on the altar of The Jell-o Rowboat Arms.
I can't quite blame him.
I made a birthday cake for America and American flag cupcakes for the kids.
They loved singing "Happy Birthday" to America and blowing out their candles.
As we were sitting at the table getting ready for dessert, Brandon was calculating the age of the U.S. in his head, and mentioned that it was 234 years old....to which I said, "I have 2-3-4 candles!" So we lit them and sang Happy Birthday again.
I had a blast making this cake. The whipped cream would be enough to make me happy....
(but you already knew that)...
inside the cake, there was a little patriotic surprise....
What could it be?
That cake is SO AMAZING! How did you do that? I can't get over it!!! Wow. I am so impressed. Oh I wish I had a piece. We did have pie (appple/peach pie) and vanilla ice cream which I must say turned out beautifully and tasted even better but really- it cannot compare to what I just witnessed via photographs. That must have blown everyone away!
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th!
Oh, Joy, I love pie. Why didn't you invite me over? =)
