I'd like to call this post:

ADVENTURES IN COUPONING
(except I didn't actually use any coupons)

I've never really been a coupon-ing sort of girl.
(I've found that most coupons are for products I don't buy, need, or want.)
But my mother
(who is in town as an angel sent from heaven to take care of
my children and my husband while I've been sick in bed for three days)
showed me the way with a deal that happens quite often at Shaw's.

Behold, the loot:

9 cans diced tomatoes
7 boxes pasta
2 jars peanut butter
1 block mozzarella cheese
2 boxes cereal
1 jug of laundry detergent
1 thing of fancy Soft-Scrub toilet cleaner
2 boxes brownie mix
1 carton ice cream (not pictured...ahem)

TOTAL:
$8.58

ORIGINAL PRICE:
$64.08

Dear Mom,
THANK YOU.

Note: Had I actually figured out how to find me some coupons,
I could have walked away with cash. Doh!

*EDITED TO ADD*
We went back a few more times....
Total Spent: $36
Original Price: $260

  1. How did you do that without coupons? Awesome!

I keep hearing about the storms going on over there. I'm waiting for pictures!

I hope you feel better soon!

  2. I'm with Brianne...how did you do it? I saw the wicked good deal on pasta...but sadly, the WW penne had already been cleared from the shelves and I couldn't bring myself to buy the regular stuff.

  3. Amy--Shaw's has a Spend-$20-on-any-of-the-following-products-and-get-$10-off-your-next-purchase deal this week.

But what people don't know is that the $20 total comes from the total of the NONSALE price. So even though my diced tomatoes were $0.79/each, their presale price was $1.79. So I added up the pre-sale prices on these items (the picture represents three trips), and the total came to $10-12/trip (though the pre-sale price was $20ish). THEN my mom gave me her $10off coupon from her last trip...leaving me with totals like $3 and $1.50, etc.

I then gave my mom the coupon that Shaw's gave me for the purchase.

I went back twice today and ended up with 24 cans of tomatoes FOR FREE. (Pre-sale price = $20, real price = $9 ish....add in my $10off coupon, and VOILA!)

  5. WOW. That is amazing. And that's stuff I would actually use, too, which is different from most things people get with coupons.
