Preschool started today.
We decided to home school Ian for preschool
in a co-op with another family.
So these are his first-day-of-school pictures.
It was an absolute blast.
Do you see how happy Ian and Ada are to be starting school?
Here they are doing their self-portraits for the time capsule.
(said time capsule to be opened on the last day of school in June)
Ian concentrated hard on his drawing.
...so did Ada
...and Alice, too.
So far, we're enjoying this home school experiment.
We're doing a kindergarten curriculum,
and I think we're going to meet a lot of success with it.
Ian loves having "home preschool," and he's so excited to learn.
Here are a few of the things we're putting in his time capsule:
(the idea is that they'll complete the exact same activity at the end of the school year
and we'll have a visual representation of their improvement.)
Caption to Self Portrait:
"I was standing on the porch and I thought the sun was behind the clouds
and I was worried about bricks and squishy rocks"
Favorite Toy: Thomas
Favorite Book: The book I made up myself
Favorite Color: Blue, Red, and Green
Favorite Movie: Cars
We also had the kids write all of their capital and lowercase letters...
this is just one of the pages.
I think he's a genius.
But that's just me.
And Joe. =)
You betcha! But, unlike last year's preschool, nobody invited me to come socialize with the other moms and have a coffee for the first 15 minutes.
ReplyDeleteOh well. Maybe I'll be invited for the Christmas program. Maybe?
We loved our preschool co-op. I definitely felt like I was 100% competent to teach my son his ABCs and 123s. And the kids loved it!
ReplyDeleteDo I need to clarify that I was invited for the coffee last year, but had only the donuts? I'm sure you got the drift...
ReplyDeleteAnd me! I love his self portrait!
ReplyDeletethis will be a VERY fun year for all of you. I am partial to Alice's head of hair, reminds me of some Shanklin's ( most recently, Clara, Russel's little girl! )
Yay for home-pre-school! I love it! And I love the co-op part too...definitely something on my mind for next year...
ReplyDeleteI love Ian's drawings & that you can display them here for us to admire his mad skills! Brilliance!
We are doing that this year with Jackson, too. I love the time-capsule thing. What a fabulous idea!
ReplyDeleteI think he's a genius too. I love the time capsule.
ReplyDeleteI love that you're doing a kindergarten program. What program are you using?
Today was K's first day of a homeschool preschool co-op too!
Love it! Vic and I were JUST talking about homeschooling not five minutes ago. Can't wait to show him this post in the morning. Have you read "A Thomas Jefferson Education"?
ReplyDeleteI've been missing you real bad.
I think he is a genius too. I have friends that have done a "Joy School", I think it is the same as a preschool co-op, anyway, they really liked it.
