Pinewood Derby 2012

For those of you who follow our Pinewood Derby Open Class tradition, we had a great entry this year.

Somehow we got an extra late start this year, and didn't start cutting until two days before, and did the painting just one day before the races.

Ian was the paint-master-pro, as always, and got distracted painting the papers, the popsicle sticks, and anything else that looked pertinent.

Yes, we ended up with a Swagga' Wagon, aka a Toyota Sienna.  Hey, when the boy has an idea, the boy has an idea!  I cut a template to carve the wood, and with the help of a ForeverSharpTM, cutting through the Eastern White Pine was like cutting through butta' (much to Jen's chagrin).  Rather than painting all of the details, we ModPodged the left and right sides with a nice color printout.    Our derby cars get played with year after year, so that have to be durable to playtime!

Here are some of the other entries.  I didn't get a shot before the races, so there's many cars missing in this picture.  Oh, well.

The boys loved (loved!) watching the races, and Blake was a big fan of "again!" all morning long.

Check out that face.  What a doll!

I think he understood the limit was the green line, but perhaps he was trying to squeeze in between the dashes?

And here is our open class family champion, who won second place in all the races he ran!

Did you notice the picture that Ian selected for the front of his car?  We love this boy!
