Nathan Pulsifer Hall
Nathan P was born in 1847 in Columbia, Maine to Orrin O Hall (1806-1885) and Abigail Willey (1810-1882). Columbia is just the other side of Harrington from Milbridge.
Orrin (45), worked as a millman in 1850, with Abigail F (38) running the house, and his sons Abram W (19) and Zemro S (16) working alongside him at the mill. The younger children, Abigail (14), Warren L (7), Harriet A H (5), Nathan P (3), and Sophronia W (infant) would have been a house full of activity. Orrin's real estate value was $300, which could have been his house and small farm.
Sawmills were an important part of Maine's industry.

Abigail (14) was the only child in the house to attend school that year.
By 1860, the two oldest boys, Abraham and Zemro had moved out. Orrin (54) and Abigail (47) were still in Columbia with their daughter Abby (22) at home, along with Warren L (17), Harriet A (14) Nathan P (13), Sophronia W (11), and two additions since the last Census, Irene N (8) and John J (5).

Nathan married Athlona Adelia "Delia" Lowe (1843-1879) in 1867, and lived in Columbia, and had 5 kids through that marriage.

After Nathan began his family, the 1870 Census records Orrin (64) was working as a laborer, with his real estate valued at $236 and personal effects at $121. Abigail (57) was keeping house with just Irene (18) and John (15) at home. As with the previous decade, they are still listed as living between the Frye's and the Randalls.
Nathan's first wife Delia died in August 1879, and he joined households with his sister, Sophronia and her husband, Vandeluer Lowe. A few weeks after Delia died, Sophronia's oldest boy, Philander (1869-1879) passed away (10 Sep 1879). Then, a few months after Nathan's second marriage to Mary Ella Strout (Sep 1880), Sophronia passed away (March 1881), leaving Vandeluer with two surviving boys , Milton (1871-1946), Edgar (1873-1942).
During these tumultuous years, family helped take care of the younger children, as only Pulsifer (9) was living with Nathan in 1880.
Abigail (67) and Orrin (74) lived long lived in Columbia in 1880, maintaining their house and doing some farming. Next door to them was their son John J Hall, working as a carpenter (age 24) and his wife Hattie (22) and their baby Freddy A. Hattie died later that year (1880, age 22).
Nathan's mother, Abbie F. Hall died on 21 November 1882 in Columbia, and was buried in the Hall-Randall Private Cemetery. There may have been a sickness in the house, because John J died a couple of weeks later on December 5, 1882, leaving Freddy orphaned. Fred A Hall is listed in the 1900 census with his maternal grandmother, Lydia Allen in Milbridge.
Orrin continued to live a few years until June 2, 1885, and was buried in the same cemetery.
Mary Ella Strout
Mary Ella Strout was born in 1862 to Otis Smith Strout (1818-1892) of Harrington, ME and Eliza S Joy (1828-1890) of Addison, ME (village next door) . They had married in 1848 and had 7 children, of which Mary was the 5th. They lived in a part of Milbridge that was almost all Strouts.
In 1870, Otis (50) and Eliza (42) had 6 kids at home. The farm they worked was valued at $600, with another $200 in personal effects. Their oldest son Gleason was a seaman.

7. Phoebe Ann (1872-1950) m. 1897 Forest Griffin (1872-1956)
In 1880, Mary lived with her parents Otis (60) and Eliza (53) Strout, four siblings, and a niece in Milbridge. Otis was a farmer. Her two older brothers Everett and Herbert were Sailors.
When Eliza died in 1890, and Otis died in 1892, they were buried in a family cemetery, known as the Otis Strout Family Cemetery. Also in that plot are Abigail Joy and Isaac Strout, Otis's parents, and Joseph Strout (1719-??). I believe it's located here.
Life Together
In 1880, Nathan was widowed, and he went to live with his brother-in-law, Vandeluer Lowe's family in Columbia, along with his son Pulsifer D, as of the June Census. Later that fall, he remarried Mary Ella Strout of Milbridge on September 18, 1880, and commenced his life with his "second family".

As of 1885-1912, the documents are fairly consistent that Nathan was a
As of 1900, in their first 20 years of marriage, Nathan (50) and Mary (39) had 14 children, 10 survived. In the next ten years until the 1910 Census, two more children were born, but two others died.
Nathan P (60, m2) and Mary E (48, m1), in the end, had 16 children together, of which 10 were living (the bold children above were alive at the time of the 1900, 1910 census). Their son Orrin worked at the sardine factory that year, and his siblings had other various odd jobs (hiring out to do housework, sailors, telephone linemen, etc). Also worthy of interest, that year, Darius D Sprague, (74 wd), who was Mary Ella's brother-in-law (via Augusta Jane Strout) lived with them. Darius's 1st cousin was Lafayette Sprague, Judith's father. Lafayette's family lived 3 households down the street in 1910. Judith would become a their daughter-in law in 1913 when she and Orrin married.
Mary Ella died in 1914 at age 52, she is buried at Forest Hill, Harrington, Maine. While the rest of her children were grown and married at the time, their youngest, Harriet, was 10 years old at the time.
Nathan (71) was head of the house in 1920, retired, with his daughter Lillian and her husband Ira Smith and their three children. They lived next door to Orrin and Judith Hall.
Nathan Pulsifer Hall died in 1923 at age 75.
